Fagbemi Denies Arranging for South South Governor’s Defection

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, has vehemently denied allegations that he met with a South-South governor to discuss the governor’s potential defection from the opposition party.

The denial comes on the heels of recent remarks made by Paul Ibe, the spokesperson of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, which suggested that Fagbemi had held secret meetings with the governor to persuade him to defect to the ruling party.

In a strongly worded statement, Fagbemi described the claim as a “lie from the pit of hell” and emphasized that he had never met with the governor or any other politician to discuss defection or any other matter related to party politics.

Fagbemi stated that as the Chief Law Officer of the Federation, he is committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism, and would never engage in any activity that could be perceived as compromising his office or the government.

The Attorney General warned that the spread of false information and misinformation can have serious consequences for the country’s democracy and stability, and urged politicians and their spokespersons to desist from making unsubstantiated claims that can heat up the polity.

The denial by Fagbemi has sparked a heated debate in the political sphere, with some critics questioning the motives behind the allegations made by Ibe and others defending the former Vice President’s spokesperson as a legitimate attempt to expose the ruling party’s alleged plans to poach opposition governors.

As the controversy continues to unfold, many are watching with keen interest to see how the situation will play out, and whether the allegations will have any impact on the country’s political landscape.

In a related development, the opposition party has issued a statement calling on the Attorney General to come clean on his alleged meetings with the governor, and to provide evidence to support his denial.

The party also warned that it will not hesitate to take legal action if it is found that Fagbemi or any other government official has engaged in any activity that undermines the country’s democracy.
