Tinubu Swears In New NNPC Limited Board, CEO, Bayo Ojulari

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sworn in the newly constituted Board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), ushering in a fresh era for the state oil giant amid renewed efforts to reform and reposition Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

The inauguration took place on Thursday at the State House, Abuja, shortly before the President attended the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Summit.

The swearing-in follows the board’s formal appointment on April 2, 2025.

Leading the new board is seasoned oil industry executive Engineer Bashir Bayo Ojulari, who assumes office as the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO).

Ojulari, a former Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company and Executive Vice-President at Renaissance Africa Energy Co., brings over three decades of experience to the role.

Ahmadu Musa Kida, a former top executive at TotalEnergies, was inaugurated as the Non-Executive Chairman of the Board. He is expected to provide strategic oversight and direction for the company’s operations.

Other members of the 11-man board include Adedapo Segun, Bello Rabiu, Yusuf Usman, Babs Omotowa, Austin Avuru, David Ige, and Henry Obih, each of whom brings a wealth of experience from various sectors of the oil and gas industry.

President Tinubu, in his address at the ceremony, emphasized that the new appointments reflect his administration’s commitment to instilling professionalism, transparency, and accountability in the oil sector.

He expressed confidence in the team’s capacity to reposition NNPCL as a commercially viable and globally competitive national energy company.

“The nation expects a higher level of performance and integrity from this board. This is not just a ceremonial role. It is a call to national service and reform,” Tinubu stated.

The reconstitution of the NNPCL Board comes at a critical time as Nigeria seeks to improve crude oil production, attract investment into the energy sector, and tackle revenue leakages in the upstream and downstream oil markets.

Industry stakeholders have expressed optimism that the leadership of Ojulari widely respected for his operational acumen and industry insight will help drive the reforms needed to transform NNPCL into a more agile and efficient organization.

NNPCL, which transitioned from a public corporation to a limited liability company under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), is now expected to operate more competitively in line with global best practices.
