Refund Fees of Students Verified for Loans, NELFUND DIRECTS Tertiary Institutions

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has directed all tertiary institutions in the country to refund fees to students who have been verified for loan disbursement.

The directive is aimed at ensuring that students who have been approved for the loan do not pay fees twice.

According to a statement released by NELFUND, the refund is applicable to students who have paid their fees before the loan disbursement and have been verified by the fund.

The institutions have been instructed to refund the fees to the students immediately, to avoid any further delay or inconvenience.

The move is seen as a welcome development by students, who have been facing difficulties in accessing the loan due to bureaucratic delays and inefficiencies.

The NELFUND loan scheme is designed to provide financial assistance to Nigerian students in tertiary institutions, to help them pay their fees and other educational expenses.

“We are committed to making the loan disbursement process as smooth and efficient as possible,” said the Executive Secretary of NELFUND, in a statement. “We understand that students have been facing difficulties in accessing the loan, and we are taking steps to address these challenges. The refund of fees to verified students is a key part of this effort.”

The directive has been welcomed by student leaders, who have been advocating for a more efficient and transparent loan disbursement process. “This is a positive development, and we commend NELFUND for taking this step,” said the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). “We hope that this will help to reduce the financial burden on students and their families, and enable them to focus on their studies.”

The NELFUND loan scheme has been in operation since 1993, and has provided financial assistance to thousands of Nigerian students. However, the scheme has faced challenges in recent years, including delays in loan disbursement and difficulties in accessing the loan. The directive to refund fees to verified students is seen as a key step towards addressing these challenges and improving the overall efficiency of the scheme
