Kaigama Praises President Tinubu’s Gesture of Inter-Religious Dialogue

The Archbishop of Abuja, Ignatius Kaigama, has commended President Tinubu for his recent gesture of inter-religious dialogue, describing it as a “very significant” and “concrete” step towards promoting harmony between different faiths.

Speaking at a function in Janligo, which was attended by high-profile political personnel, Archbishop Kaigama revealed that he and three other Catholic bishops had accompanied President Tinubu to Rome last Sunday for the inauguration of the new Pope.

The Archbishop noted that President Tinubu’s decision to attend the predominantly Christian event, despite being a Muslim, was a remarkable display of his commitment to inter-religious dialogue.

“For me, that was a very significant gesture from a president who is a Muslim,” Archbishop Kaigama said.

He emphasized that inter-religious dialogue should not be limited to theoretical discussions, but rather should be demonstrated through concrete actions and a willingness to engage with people of other faiths.

“Inter-religious dialogue doesn’t have to be theoretical. It has to be concrete. The dialogue of life,” Archbishop Kaigama stressed.

The Archbishop also praised the warm reception President Tinubu received from the Pope, saying it was a testament to the President’s efforts to build bridges between different faith communities.

“As a Muslim, he went to an overwhelmingly Christian event and he was well-received by the Pope. This is so important,” Archbishop Kaigama said.

The Archbishop’s comments have been seen as a significant endorsement of President Tinubu’s efforts to promote inter-religious dialogue and understanding in the country.

The gesture is likely to be viewed as a positive step towards fostering greater harmony and cooperation between different faith groups in the country.
