Court to Hear DSS Suit Against Utomi June 25 Over Shadow Government
A Federal High Court in Lagos has fixed June 25, 2025, for the hearing on the ongoing case involving the Department of State Services (DSS) and Professor Pat Utomi.
The suit, filed by the DSS, challenges Professor Utomi’s role in the formation of a so-called “Shadow Government,” a political group that has been advocating for alternative governance outside Nigeria’s current political framework.
At a recent court session, the judge ordered that Professor Utomi be formally served with the court’s processes.
The June 25 hearing will determine whether this service has been properly effected and will address any preliminary issues raised by the defense.
The DSS is seeking legal recourse against what it views as a challenge to the authority of Nigeria’s legitimate government, citing concerns that the Shadow Government’s activities undermine national stability.
Professor Utomi, a respected political economist and activist, has remained defiant, asserting that the group’s agenda is aimed at promoting democratic governance and political reform.
Legal experts note that the case highlights the growing tensions between established government institutions and emerging alternative political movements in Nigeria.
The proceedings are expected to attract significant public and media attention.
