Otu Launches Traces of Time for Calabar Festival
The countdown to the 20th anniversary of Carnival Calabar, Africa’s biggest street party, has officially begun.
Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has unveiled “Traces of Time” as the official theme for the 2025 edition of the carnival.
The unveiling ceremony, which took place in Abuja, was attended by past Governors of Cross River State, industry leaders, and cultural icons. Governor Otu reflected on the carnival’s rich history, which began in 2005 under the administration of former Governor Donald Duke.
The 20th edition of Carnival Calabar promises to be a memorable one, with a range of exciting activities and events planned to mark the occasion.
The theme “Traces of Time” is designed to take participants on a nostalgic journey, highlighting the evolution of the carnival over the years and the impact it has had on the state and its people.
“Carnival Calabar has come a long way since its inception in 2005, and we are proud of the progress we have made. As we celebrate our 20th anniversary, we want to take a moment to reflect on our journey, honor our past, and look forward to the future,” Governor Otu said.
The carnival, which has become an integral part of the state’s identity, is expected to attract thousands of visitors from across Nigeria and around the world.
