Lampard Revitalised my Waning Career, Confesses Iwobi

In a revealing interview on The Inside Scoop podcast, Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has opened up about the pivotal role former Chelsea star and manager Frank Lampard played in revitalizing his football career.

Iwobi, who has been a mainstay in the Nigerian national team, reflected on his time at Everton under Lampard, describing it as a turning point that breathed new life into his career.

According to Iwobi, it was Lampard who helped him regain his confidence and form during a challenging period.

“Lampard, hands down. Lampard revived my career,” Iwobi said, his voice filled with gratitude. The Nigerian international recalled a particularly difficult time when he was sent off in one of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) matches and returned to his club, only to be told by then-manager Rafa Benitez that he would be sent out on loan.

However, with Benitez’s departure, Lampard took over the reins at Everton, and Iwobi’s fortunes began to change.

“Lampard told me I would be going on loan to another country,” Iwobi revealed. But instead of accepting the move, Iwobi decided to fight for his place in the team.

“I said, ‘I’m not doing that, I’d rather stay here and fight for my place.’ Lampard gives everyone a chance,” he explained.

Iwobi credited Lampard’s coaching style and philosophy for helping him rediscover his form.

“In training, I’m a very good training player. He said, ‘You can do this in training, why can’t you do it in matches?’ I told him, ‘I’ve been told by previous managers to set the ball and run.'”

However, Lampard encouraged Iwobi to play to his strengths, rather than trying to fit into a predetermined mold.

“He then said, ‘No, do your own thing.’ He then put me in midfield, where I liked being on the ball. He said, ‘Express yourself, be you,’ and that’s where I revitalised my career,” Iwobi revealed.

The midfielder, who has been in impressive form for both club and country, attributed his success to Lampard’s trust and guidance.

“I’d say under Lampard was my best time,” he said, reflecting on his time at Everton.

Iwobi’s comments have sparked a renewed interest in Lampard’s coaching career, with many pundits and fans praising the former Chelsea manager for his ability to get the best out of his players.
