NMA Urges Government to Prioritize Medical Doctors’ Welfare

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has called on the government and employers of medical personnel to prioritize the welfare of doctors to address the recurring issue of “japa syndrome” in the country. NMA President, Prof. Bala Audu, emphasized this point during a grand reception in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Audu noted that the shortage of medical personnel is a global issue, but retaining doctors in Nigeria requires prioritizing their welfare.

He praised Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno’s health workforce retention policy, which focuses on prioritizing medical personnel’s welfare.

The NMA president urged the governor to ensure universal applicability of standards in all healthcare facilities across the state, emphasizing the importance of unity in the healthcare workforce.

He also highlighted the need for adequate infrastructure, equipment, and personnel to provide quality healthcare services.

The Chairman of NMA in Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Aniekan Peter, commended Governor Eno for appointing medical professionals to the state executive council and pledged the association’s support for the commissioners and the governor to improve healthcare in the state.
