My Spat with Tinubu Over Attack on Northerns in Lagos, Recalls Sule Lamido

Former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido has revealed a dramatic confrontation with the current President, Bola Tinubu, over a wave of violent attacks targeting Northerners in Lagos.
Lamido made the disclosure in his recently released autobiography.
The crisis, which occurred in 2000, resulted in significant loss of life and property, with many Northerners affected.
A federal committee, led by the then Minister of Environment, Hassan Adamu, was established to assess the situation and find a solution.
During a meeting with Tinubu, who was the Governor of Lagos at the time, Lamido expressed his outrage and frustration over the violence. Tinubu, however, accused the federal government of attempting to impose its authority on the state by declaring a state of emergency.
Lamido recounted that he sternly warned Tinubu that if such violence were to recur, the federal government would not hesitate to take drastic action, including declaring a state of emergency in the state.
He emphasized that the attacks were not only devastating to human life but also targeted the economic interests of Northerners.
