EFCC Transfers 753 Duplexes Seized from Emefiele to Ministry of Housing

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has transferred ownership of 753 luxurious duplexes, previously seized from Godwin Emefele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, to the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
This significant handover is in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to repurpose recovered assets for the benefit of the Nigerian public.
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, welcomed the EFCC Chairman, Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede, as he formally handed over the properties, located in the Cadastral Zone of the Federal Capital Territory.
The handover marks a crucial step towards transforming these recovered assets into productive infrastructure that will directly benefit Nigerians.
As part of the next steps, the Ministry will conduct a thorough assessment of the buildings and associated infrastructure to ensure they meet safety and habitability standards.
Additionally, all outstanding infrastructure, including roads, drainage systems, and essential amenities, will be completed to make the estate fully functional.
To maintain uniformity and provide guidance to prospective buyers, a standardized housing design framework will be developed.
The housing units will then be sold through a transparent and competitive process, which will be extensively promoted and managed via the Renewed Hope Portal.
This approach ensures that the sale of these properties is fair, accountable, and accessible to all eligible Nigerians.
This collaboration between the EFCC and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development demonstrates the government’s commitment to converting looted assets into tangible benefits for its citizens.
By doing so, it sends a strong message that the fight against corruption is yielding positive results, and that recovered assets can be transformed into livable homes for Nigerians, ultimately improving their quality of life.
