Zulum Raises the Alarm, Says Boko Haram Nears Full Control of Marte LGA

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has issued a grave warning regarding the deteriorating security situation in Marte Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

Speaking during a security briefing on Sunday, the Governor revealed that Boko Haram terrorists have captured nearly the entire region, with only one town left under government control.

“Out of 300 towns and villages in Marte LGA, only one is yet to fall into the hands of Boko Haram,” Zulum stated, highlighting the alarming pace at which insurgents are reclaiming territory in the troubled northeastern state.

The Governor’s statement underscores growing concerns over the resurgence of extremist activity in the region, despite repeated claims of success by the military in the fight against insurgency.

Local sources report that residents have been fleeing in droves, fearing imminent attacks and further displacement. The situation raises critical humanitarian and security challenges, particularly as Marte has long been a strategic and symbolic area in Borno’s counterinsurgency efforts.

Governor Zulum called for immediate military reinforcement and renewed federal intervention to prevent total loss of control over the LGA.

“We cannot afford to allow Boko Haram to completely take over Marte. Urgent action is needed to protect the remaining communities and reclaim those already seized,” he added.

This alarming development comes amid increasing calls for a more robust and coordinated military response in the Northeast, where insurgents continue to carry out deadly attacks, destroy infrastructure, and displace thousands.
