NELFUND Starts April Upkeep Allowance Payment for Student Loan Beneficiaries
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has commenced the disbursement of the April 2025 upkeep allowance to students benefiting from the federal government’s student loan programme.
The move is part of ongoing efforts to support students’ living expenses and enhance access to higher education.
According to a statement issued by NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the bulk of the payments has already been successfully processed. However, a few students may experience minor delays due to the recent upgrade of the agency’s payment and application processing system.
“The system upgrade is intended to enhance the security and efficiency of our operations, ensuring that students receive their allowances more promptly in the coming months,” Oluwatuyi explained.
This development is consistent with the goals of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which includes a focus on improving the welfare of Nigerian students and expanding access to quality education through financial support mechanisms.
As of April 29, 2025, NELFUND had disbursed over ₦54.2 billion in student loans. This includes ₦30.17 billion for institutional tuition fees and ₦24.04 billion allocated specifically for upkeep allowances.
The agency also noted that it is working closely with relevant stakeholders to resolve any outstanding issues and ensure that all qualified beneficiaries receive their payments without further delay.
Students who have not yet received their April disbursements are advised to monitor NELFUND’s official communication channels and ensure that their bank account details are correctly updated in the loan application system.
NELFUND reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and operational excellence, promising improved efficiency in the disbursement process moving forward.
