Low UTME Scores Force Tertiary Institutions to Accept Low Scores for Admission

The 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results have been released, and many students are left uncertain about their next steps due to the low pass rate.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that some universities will accept JAMB scores as low as 140, 150, and 160.

According to reports, many students who sat for the UTME are struggling to come to terms with their low scores, and are now exploring alternative institutions and courses.

Some are considering polytechnics and colleges of education, while others are thinking of taking a gap year to prepare for the next UTME cycle.

In response to the low pass rate, the Nigerian government has urged students to consider alternative institutions and courses that match their scores and career aspirations.
