EFCC Arrests 120 Youths in Lagos for Suspected Cyber Crime

A major sting on cybercrime has resulted in the apprehension of a large group of individuals suspected of engaging in online fraudulent activities in Nigeria’s commercial hub, Lagos.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), a leading anti-graft agency, carried out a well-coordinated sting operation that led to the detention of 120 persons, with a significant majority being male.

Acting on reliable tips and following an extensive monitoring exercise, the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 launched a surprise raid on various locations across the city on Monday, May 19, 2025.

The operation was designed to dismantle and disrupt the activities of individuals and groups involved in internet-based scams and fraudulent schemes.

During the operation, a substantial array of luxurious items and high-end gadgets were seized, including 26 high-performance vehicles and an assortment of expensive ornaments.

Additionally, several sophisticated mobile devices, laptop computers, and a trove of incriminating documents were confiscated.

These items are believed to be proceeds of the suspects’ illicit activities.

The detained individuals, comprising 95 men and 25 women, are currently facing intense scrutiny as investigators delve deeper into their alleged roles in perpetrating online fraud.

The EFCC is working to gather concrete evidence and build airtight cases against the suspects, with a view to prosecuting them in a court of law.

As the investigation unfolds, the EFCC is expected to reveal more details about the nature and scope of the alleged fraudulent activities, as well as the suspected kingpins and masterminds behind the operations.

The agency’s efforts to combat cybercrime and bring perpetrators to justice are part of a broader strategy to protect Nigerians and the country’s economy from the threats posed by online fraud and financial crimes.
