Don’t Let Boko Haram Overrun Marte, Zulum Pleads with FG

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has made a passionate appeal to the Federal Government to implement a robust strategy to prevent Marte town from falling into the hands of Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.

The governor’s plea comes after he spent the night in Marte, coordinating security efforts and assessing the challenges faced by the town.

A recent attack by the insurgents had forced thousands of residents to flee to Dikwa town, leaving Marte deserted.

However, with the support of the Nigerian Army, the governor was able to return to the town and resettle the community.

Zulum expressed concern that the displacement of over 20,000 people from Marte could make them vulnerable to recruitment by the terrorists.

He emphasized the need for the government to take decisive action to maintain stability in the town, which is the only remaining settlement in the Marte Local Government Area.

The governor warned that losing Marte to the insurgents would have severe consequences, including the potential takeover of the entire local government area.

He called for a collaborative effort between the federal government and the Nigerian Army to hold their ground and prevent the town from falling into the wrong hands.
