Tragedy as Kidnapped APC Chairman, Adepoyigi is Killed in Ondo

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has been plunged into mourning following the brutal murder of its chairman in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area, Nelson Adepoyigi.
The unfortunate incident occurred despite a ransom payment negotiation that had been ongoing between the family of the deceased and his abductors.
Adepoyigi, who was the ward 5 chairman of the APC in Ifon, was kidnapped on Monday night at the entrance of his residence on the Ifon/Owo road. His captors initially demanded a staggering N100 million ransom, which was later negotiated down to N5 million by his family.
However, in a shocking twist, two individuals, Bayode Loco and Isimeri, who were sent to deliver the ransom, were taken into custody by the kidnappers on Wednesday.
The kidnappers subsequently made a fresh demand of N30 million to secure the release of Adepoyigi and the two ransom bearers. Unfortunately, the situation took a turn for the worse, and the chairman’s life was tragically cut short by his captors.
The Chairman of Ose Local Government, Clement Kolapo Ojo, confirmed the sad news in a statement released by his spokesman, Oluwaseun Ogunniyi. While expressing gratitude for the release of the two ransom bearers, Ojo described Adepoyigi’s murder as a “brutal and painful” loss.
He extended his condolences to the family, friends, and political associates of the deceased, praising Adepoyigi’s dedication to the party and his community.
Ojo also sounded the alarm on the rising insecurity in the area, calling on the federal government to provide support to the state government in its efforts to combat banditry and other forms of criminality. He noted that the incident was a stark reminder of the dangers posed by insecurity, citing a recent near-kidnapping incident in the area.
The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, has confirmed that a tactical team has been deployed to the area to verify the circumstances surrounding Adepoyigi’s death. Afolabi stated that the police are combing the bush in Ifon to gather more information and apprehend the perpetrators.
