Nigeria’s Flying Eagles Claim Bronze at AFCON U-20
The Flying Eagles of Nigeria have secured third place at the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2025, defeating tournament hosts Egypt 4-1 in a penalty shootout.
The match, held at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo, ended 1-1 after regulation time.
Egypt took an early lead through Osama Omar’s goal, but Nigeria equalized in the 47th minute with Bidemi Amole’s calm finish. The score remained unchanged after 90 minutes, sending the match to penalties.
Nigeria’s young goalkeeper, 15-year-old Ebenezer Harcourt, made crucial saves to help his team win the shootout. Emmanuel Chukwu, Israel Ayuma, Kparobo Arierhi, and Tahir Maigana converted their penalties, securing Nigeria’s fifth bronze medal in U-20 AFCON history.
This achievement marks Nigeria’s 14th podium finish in the tournament and extends their strong record against host nations. The Flying Eagles’ bronze medal win is a testament to their determination and skill.
