Challenges of Nigerian Army in Tackling Insecurity Needs Reflection

As Nigerians continue to grapple with the complexities of insecurity in the country, it is essential to take a step back and reflect on the challenges faced by the Nigerian army in its efforts to combat terrorism and banditry.

An incident that occurred in 2022 serves as a stark reminder of the setbacks and moles that the current administration, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is working tirelessly to eradicate.

In 2022, troops of the Nigerian army’s operation Hadin Kai arrested a soldier, identified as Iorliam Emmanuel, for allegedly stealing and supplying ammunition to criminal gangs.

The suspect, who was working under the 156 task force battalion in Mainok, Borno state, was caught with a large quantity of ammunition strapped to his body.

A video of the arrest, which was widely circulated on social media, showed soldiers stripping the suspect of the ammunition and expressing outrage at his actions.

“You see your life? You, you will go and give Boko Haram these things so that they will come and attack us in this camp. Don’t worry. God pass you,” some soldiers were heard saying in the clip.

The suspect, who hails from Benue state, was alleged to have regularly stolen ammunition and supplied it to criminal gangs across the country, suspected to be bandits.

He was handed over to the military intelligence for investigation, and the incident served as a wake-up call for the Nigerian army to take a closer look at its internal systems and procedures.

As Nigerians continue to demand improved security and an end to the scourge of terrorism and banditry, it is essential to remember that the current administration is facing numerous challenges, including sabotage and corruption within the armed forces.

The incident involving Iorliam Emmanuel is a stark reminder of the moles that exist within the system, and the need for patience and understanding as the government works to eradicate them.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration are working tirelessly to address the security challenges facing the country, and it is essential that Nigerians give them the support and understanding they need to succeed. It is not about blaming the government or the president; it is about acknowledging the challenges and working together to find solutions.
