Wike Refutes Feud with Suspended Rivers Governor, Calls Him ‘Political Son’

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has publicly refuted claims of a feud with the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, describing him as his “political son”.
In a recent interview with BBC Pidgin, Wike emphasized that he cannot fight his son, and that the perceived battle is actually against those who have been manipulating Fubara against him.
Wike clarified that his actions are not motivated by a personal vendetta against Fubara, but rather a desire to defeat those who are trying to exploit the governor for their own gain.
He stated, “That one is not a battle. He (Fubara) is my boy, he is my son, why will I fight with him?” Wike’s comments suggest that he is willing to put the past behind him and move forward, despite the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.
The relationship between Wike and Fubara has been strained since 2023, with reports of a deepening political rift between the two.
However, Wike’s recent statements indicate that he is open to reconciliation and willing to work towards a resolution. The minister’s comments also imply that he believes Fubara is being influenced by external factors, rather than acting independently.
There have been reports that Fubara, who was suspended by President Bola Tinubu following the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, had tendered apologies to Wike.
While Wike did not confirm or deny these reports, his comments suggest that he is willing to accept an apology and move forward.
