Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso Disowns Statement on Nigeria’s Political Realignment

Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 general elections, has distanced himself from a statement circulating on social media that allegedly represents his views on Nigeria’s ongoing political realignments.
Kwankwaso made the clarification on Saturday via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, describing the comments as “false, unfounded, and products of political mischief.”
Kwankwaso stated that his attention had been drawn to a statement purportedly stating his position on the recurring political realignments in Nigeria, and he wished to categorically deny the statement.
He emphasized that he has deliberately refrained from commenting on current political developments and intends to maintain that position for the time being.
The former Kano State governor and influential political figure cautioned the public to disregard any statements not issued through his official channels, warning against the spread of misinformation. He urged the public to only engage with statements that come from his public handles and other official sources.
The clarification comes amid growing speculation about possible alliances and defections ahead of the 2027 elections, in which Kwankwaso is widely believed to still wield considerable political influence, especially in the North-West.
Kwankwaso’s denial of the statement is seen as an attempt to manage expectations and avoid being drawn into the ongoing political realignments.
