Osun State Governor Orders Review of Project After Rain Washes Off Road, Residents’ Protest

The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed a review of a road project in Aduramigba community, Ido-Osun, following a protest by residents who alleged that a shoddy job was done by the contractor.
The residents had earlier held a peaceful protest over the quality of work done on the 4.76 kilometers road that passes through the area.
During the protest, the residents carried placards with inscriptions such as ‘We say no to no drainage and stone base road’, ‘Don’t cause quick pain for six communities’, and ‘We kick against corruption on this project’.
The community chairman, Sunday Ogundele, expressed concerns that the road was constructed without a proper drainage system, and that a poor job was done by the contractor.
He noted that the road was tarred on Sunday and Monday, but the rainfall on Thursday washed away the asphalt in some portions.
Reacting to the protest, the spokesperson to the governor, Olawale Rasheed, stated that senior officials from the Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Works, and O-RAMP Project had visited the community to assess the situation and interact with the residents.
The team was directed by Governor Adeleke to review the work done on the road and take remedial action in line with best practices.
The government team assured the community that apart from reviewing and remedying the road, the governor is also looking into other pressing needs of the community.
The team is currently interfacing with the contractors and project managers to collate reports and determine an immediate remediation action.
The government team is expected to report back to the governor by Monday, after which further corrective decisions will be taken.
