Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Metta, Struggles with Crazy Light Bills

The outgoing Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Metta, Dr. Adedamola Dada, has revealed that the hospital has been incurring a significant expense of N20 million monthly for electricity, despite receiving only three hours of daily public power supply.

This has led to the consumption of 80,000 litres of diesel per month to ensure uninterrupted power supply and maintain critical healthcare services.

Dr. Dada disclosed this information at a media parley organized to highlight the hospital’s achievements and challenges.

He noted that the hospital has been generating 95% of its power over the past seven years to ensure uninterrupted supply and meet the health needs of its patients.

Despite the financial impact of this arrangement, the medical director emphasized that power is essential for the smooth running of any functional healthcare facility.

The hospital’s efforts to provide quality care have not gone unnoticed. The Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency declared the hospital as the most standard and compliant hospital in Lagos State in 2022.

Additionally, the Bureau of Public Service Reform under the Presidency has recognized the hospital as one of the trailblazers in the use of ICT in the public health sector.
