Wike, Fubara’s Supporters Clash at Forum Intended for Peace,. Reconciliation

Supporters of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and those of suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara have clashed in a meeting.

The meeting, which was intended to provide a platform for discussion and debate on the ongoing political crisis in the state, quickly descended into chaos as tensions between the two groups boiled over.

The incident occurred when the President General of the Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI), Bright Amaewhule, took the stage to address the gathering.

Amaewhule’s comments, which highlighted the role of GDI in Fubara’s emergence as governor, were seen as a thinly veiled attack on Wike and his supporters.

According to Amaewhule, GDI was instrumental in promoting Fubara’s candidacy and helping him gain acceptance among the people of Rivers State.

He claimed that GDI had taken Fubara on a tour of the state’s local governments, introducing him to the people and building support for his campaign.

Amaewhule also alleged that Wike’s supporters had later tried to turn Fubara against his own party and the people who had supported him.

The comments sparked outrage among Wike’s supporters, who felt that Amaewhule was trying to undermine the minister’s influence and credibility.

The situation quickly escalated, with both sides exchanging insults and threats. The meeting eventually broke down, and the violence spilled out onto the streets, with supporters of both sides clashing and fighting.

The incident has raised concerns about the deepening political divisions in Rivers State and the potential for further violence and instability.

The state has been embroiled in a bitter power struggle between Wike and Fubara, with each side accusing the other of trying to undermine their authority and legitimacy.

The clash between Wike and Fubara supporters is seen as a symptom of the larger political crisis in the state, which has been fueled by rivalries and power struggles within the ruling party. The incident has also highlighted the need for calm and restraint, as well as the importance of finding a peaceful and democratic resolution to the crisis.
