Nigeria Governors Forum Parleys Traditional Rulers on Proposed Constitutional Amendment

The Nigeria Governors Forum is currently engaging in a meeting with the National Council of Traditional Rulers to discuss the proposed bill for the establishment of a National Council for Traditional Rulers.

 

The proposed law aims to provide constitutional recognition and define the roles of traditional institutions in grassroots governance and security.

 

The proposed amendment bill is currently receiving input from selected governors and monarchs across Nigeria.

 

The bill seeks to address issues related to security challenges, including banditry, terrorism, and other crimes in the country.

 

The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, represented by the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, emphasized the importance of the proposed amendment bill in legislating on these critical issues.

 

Governor Uzodimma commended the efforts of traditional rulers in playing a complementary role in peace-building and communal living across the country. He acknowledged the significant contributions of traditional rulers in promoting social cohesion and stability in their respective domains.

 

The Governor pledged to ensure that the proposed bill is given due consideration and attention, with a commitment to doing justice to the bill for the sake of even growth and development.

 

The meeting between the Nigeria Governors Forum and the National Council of Traditional Rulers is a significant step towards strengthening the partnership between the government and traditional institutions in addressing the country’s security challenges.
