Governor Umo Eno Returns to Lagos Church Where His Governorship Was Prophesied 45 Years Ago
In a deeply symbolic homecoming, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno returned to The Apostolic Church, Maboju Assembly in Lagos on Sunday, May 11, to give thanks for a prophecy made 45 years ago that foretold his rise to the governorship.
Governor Eno recalled how, in 1980, during a church prayer meeting, a young girl prophesied that he would one day become a governor. At the time, Eno, then a struggling teenager, found the prophecy difficult to believe. He had just lost his father and was helping his mother raise six younger siblings, facing what felt like insurmountable challenges.
Despite his doubts, Eno’s mother reminded him that “every vision is for an appointed time,” urging him to hold on to the promise. This message, grounded in faith and perseverance, stayed with him throughout his journey from a humble start to his current position as the chief executive of one of Nigeria’s most economically significant states.
The thanksgiving service at the Maboju Assembly, where Eno once served as a choir member, deacon, interpreter, and committee chairman, was an emotional moment for him.
Accompanied by his family, Eno returned to the church that nurtured his faith and leadership. The atmosphere was charged with gratitude as the congregation celebrated the fulfillment of a decades-old prophecy.
Reflecting on his journey, Eno likened his return to the biblical story of Jacob returning to Bethel, a place where he first encountered divine promise.

During the service, Pastor Dr. Gabriel Uyeh, National Vice President of The Apostolic Church, praised Governor Eno for his humility and spiritual approach to leadership, stating, “Humility is the foundation of greatness.”

Governor Eno also used the occasion to emphasize the need for unity beyond political affiliations.
