Mexican Beauty Influencer Valeria Márquez Shot Dead During TikTok Livestream

Valeria Márquez, a 23-year-old Mexican beauty influencer, was tragically shot and killed during a TikTok livestream in her salon, sending shockwaves across social media and sparking renewed outrage over gender-based violence in Mexico.

Márquez, who had built a devoted following of nearly 200,000 fans across TikTok and Instagram through her beauty and lifestyle content, was broadcasting live from her salon, Blossom the Beauty Lounge, in Zapopan, Jalisco, on Monday when the fatal attack occurred.

According to eyewitness accounts and video footage, a man posing as a delivery person entered the salon and opened fire, shooting Márquez in the chest and head.

The assailant quickly fled the scene on a motorcycle. Moments earlier, Márquez had expressed unease during the livestream, referencing a suspicious attempt by someone to deliver her an expensive gift.

Authorities in Jalisco are investigating the killing as a potential femicide defined in Mexican law as the murder of a woman because of her gender.

Officials confirmed that Márquez had previously mentioned having issues with a former partner, even publicly stating that if anything were to happen to her, he should be held responsible due to earlier threats.

As of Tuesday morning, no arrests have been made, but authorities are following several leads, including the possibility of an orchestrated attack linked to prior threats.

The incident has reignited debate over Mexico’s troubling femicide crisis. Jalisco ranks among the states with the highest rates of violence, reporting over 900 homicides since President Claudia Sheinbaum assumed office in October 2024. Activists have called for more stringent measures to protect women and content creators, particularly those who publicly document their lives online.

Valeria Márquez’s death has prompted an outpouring of grief and anger from fans, influencers, and women’s rights groups.

Her funeral arrangements have not yet been made public, but many are already calling for justice and stronger protections for women in Mexico’s digital and physical spaces.
