APC Now Government of National Unity, Says Senate Majority Leader

Senate Majority Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele has announced that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is now a government of national unity, welcoming politicians from other parties to join its fold.
This statement comes after three senators from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – Adamu Aliero, Yahaya Abdullahi, and Garba Maidoki – formally defected to the APC during a plenary session at the Senate Chamber.
Bamidele emphasized that the APC’s doors remain open to anyone willing to join, regardless of their background or party affiliation. He assured that the party will not discriminate against individuals based on religion, tribe, or any other factor.
The Senate Leader dismissed allegations that the APC is attempting to create a one-party state, stating that the defections are a result of lawmakers voluntarily choosing to align with the ruling party.
He noted that members from various opposition parties, including the Young Progressives Party (YPP) and the PDP, have joined the APC, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has also contributed to the federal government by nominating a minister.
Bamidele praised the defectors, describing them as seasoned politicians who made their decision in good faith.
He highlighted their impressive backgrounds, including Senator Aliero’s experience as a former governor and minister, and Senator Abdullahi’s tenure as Senate Leader in the 9th National Assembly.
The Senate Leader expressed optimism about the defections, viewing them as a positive development for the country. He assured that the APC will continue to work with minority parties to advance Nigeria’s progress.
The defection ceremony was attended by notable figures, including APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, and APC National Organizing Secretary Sulaiman Argungu.
