Adeleke Lacks Capacity to Lead Osun, I’ll Unseat Him, Boasts APC’s Ajibola Basiru

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has launched a scathing attack on the Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, accusing him of lacking the competence to govern and vowing to unseat him in the 2026 gubernatorial election.

Basiru, a former Senate spokesperson, made the remarks during a media interaction in Osogbo on Tuesday.

He criticized the performance of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led administration in the state, describing it as “visionless and inept.”

“Governor Adeleke lacks the administrative and intellectual capacity to lead a complex state like Osun. His government has failed woefully in critical areas such as infrastructure, education, and job creation.

“We cannot afford to watch Osun slide further into misgovernance. I am committed to unseating him and restoring responsible leadership in 2026,” Basiru said.

The APC chieftain also noted that the party was undergoing internal restructuring to prepare for the next election cycle, adding that efforts were underway to unite members and reconnect with the electorate.

Basiru’s comments come amid growing political tension in Osun, with both the APC and PDP trading accusations ahead of what is expected to be a hotly contested governorship race.

Reacting to the comments, a spokesperson for Governor Adeleke dismissed Basiru’s claims as “empty political noise,” stating that the governor remains committed to delivering good governance.

“The people of Osun know the truth. Governor Adeleke has prioritized education, healthcare, and infrastructure since assuming office. The APC should focus on cleaning its own house instead of making baseless allegations,” the statement read.

As the political climate heats up, observers say the coming months will be crucial for both parties as they prepare for the high-stakes 2026 election.
