Wike Commends Okowa, PDP Structure’s Defection to APC

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has openly commended the defection of former Delta State Governor and 2023 PDP Vice Presidential candidate, Ifeanyi Okowa, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Wike, who is also a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), described Okowa’s decision to join the APC as a “smart move”.

The Minister’s statement has sent shockwaves through the PDP, with many party members expressing disappointment and betrayal. Okowa’s defection is seen as a significant blow to the PDP, which is still reeling from the loss of several high-profile members to the APC in recent months.

Wike, who has been a vocal critic of the APC in the past, praised Okowa’s decision to join the ruling party, saying it was a “bold and strategic move” that would benefit the people of Delta State.

“Ifeanyi Okowa is a seasoned politician who knows what is best for his people.

“His decision to join the APC is a smart move that will bring development and progress to Delta State,” Wike said in a statement.

The Minister’s comments have raised eyebrows, with many wondering what could have prompted him to praise Okowa’s defection to the APC. Some have speculated that Wike may be positioning himself for a similar move, while others believe he may be trying to send a message to the PDP leadership.

Okowa’s defection to the APC is seen as a major coup for the ruling party, which has been working to strengthen its hold on power ahead of the next general elections.

The former Delta State Governor was a key figure in the PDP, serving as the party’s Vice Presidential candidate in the 2023 elections.

The PDP has yet to officially react to Okowa’s defection, but sources within the party say they are “shocked and disappointed” by Wike’s comments. This is a betrayal of the highest order,” said a PDP source. “Wike’s comments are a slap in the face to the party and its members who have worked tirelessly to build the PDP into a viable opposition party.”

As the news of Okowa’s defection and Wike’s comments continue to spread, the PDP is facing a crisis of confidence.

The party’s leadership is under pressure to respond to the developments and reassure its members that it remains a viable alternative to the APC.

The APC, on the other hand, is celebrating Okowa’s defection as a major victory. The party’s leaders have welcomed Okowa to the fold, praising his decision to join the “progressive” party.

“We are delighted to welcome Ifeanyi Okowa to the APC,” said an APC spokesperson. “His defection is a testament to the APC’s commitment to good governance and development.”
