Oshiomhole Backs Tinubu’s Reforms, Asks Nigerians to be Patient

In a recent interview on Channels Television, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, a prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC), voiced strong support for the economic policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

He urged Nigerians to exercise patience, emphasizing the substantial efforts being made to rectify the nation’s economic trajectory, which he attributed to mismanagement by previous administrations.

“The economic environment inherited by this government… truly, truly, this country was badly mismanaged.

The economy was badly mismanaged,” Oshiomhole stated, acknowledging the severity of the challenges facing the current leadership. He clarified that his remarks were not intended to cast blame but to underscore the factual realities of the situation.

The senator expressed optimism about the future, asserting, “I think we can say, I can say, that I think the worst is over. We are going to begin to witness improvement in the quality of standard of living.” He projected that within a 24-month timeframe, the administration’s reforms would begin to yield tangible results, restoring stability and growth to the Nigerian economy.

Oshiomhole highlighted the importance of equitable distribution of the benefits arising from the government’s “courageous decisions.”

He specifically called upon employers, particularly within the labor sector, to prioritize paying a “living wage” to their workers.

“When you pay workers living wage, the money they earn, the only people who look inward in their consumption pattern are salary earners,” he argued, emphasizing the crucial role of wage increases in stimulating domestic consumption and driving economic growth.

The senator’s remarks come at a time when Nigeria is grappling with significant economic headwinds, including inflation, currency devaluation, and rising living costs.

The Tinubu administration has implemented a series of reforms aimed at addressing these challenges, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of exchange rates.

These measures, while intended to stabilize the economy in the long term, have resulted in short-term hardships for many Nigerians.

Oshiomhole’s call for patience reflects the government’s appeal to the public to endure the current economic difficulties in anticipation of future improvements.

His emphasis on the legacy issues facing the administration serves to contextualize the challenges and highlight the scale of the reforms being undertaken.
