Olubolade’s Demise Throws People into Mourning
The Nigerian military and political communities have been thrown into mourning following the death of former Military Administrator of Bayelsa State, Major General Caleb Olubolade (Rtd).
The news of his passing was announced today 23th May, 2025 and has sent shockwaves across the country.
According to reports, General Olubolade, who served as the Military Administrator of Bayelsa State from 2010 t o 2025, died after a brief illness.
The cause of his death has not been officially disclosed, but sources close to the family confirmed that he had been battling with health issues in recent times.
During his tenure as Military Administrator, General Olubolade was known for his efforts to develop the infrastructure and economy of Bayelsa State.
He implemented several projects aimed at improving the lives of the people, including the construction of roads, schools, and healthcare facilities.
General Olubolade’s death has been met with an outpouring of tributes from politicians, military personnel, and residents of Bayelsa State, who remembered him as a dedicated and selfless leader.
The Bayelsa State Government has announced plans to hold a state funeral in his honor, with the date and details to be announced soon.
In a statement, the Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri , described General Olubolade as a “true patriot and a hero of the Nigerian nation”.
He said: “General Olubolade’s contributions to the development of our state and country will never be forgotten. He was a man of great integrity and vision, and his legacy will continue to inspire us for generations to come.”
The Nigerian military has also paid tribute to General Olubolade, with the Chief of Defence Staff, Awoye Andrew Azazi, describing him as “a distinguished and decorated officer who served the nation with distinction”.
He said: “General Olubolade’s passing is a great loss to the Nigerian military and the nation as a whole. We will miss his wisdom, experience, and leadership.”
General Olubolade is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the people of Bayelsa State, whom he served with dedication and distinction. May his soul rest in peace.
