Tinubu Swears in New INEC Commissioners, Code of Conduct Members

In a brief ceremony held at the State House in Abuja, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sworn in newly appointed commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and members of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) earlier today.
The inauguration took place just before the commencement of the ongoing Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, which the President is currently presiding over.
The newly sworn-in INEC Commissioners are Mallam Tukur Abdulrazaq Yusuf, representing the North West, and Professor Sunday Nwambam Aja, representing Ebonyi State in the South East. These appointments are expected to bolster the commission’s efforts in ensuring the credibility and integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.
In addition to the INEC Commissioners, two new members of the CCB board were also sworn in.
Ikpeme Kenneth Ndem from Cross River State and retired Justice Buba Ibrahim Nyaure from Taraba State will join the board, tasked with promoting and enforcing the code of conduct for public officers in Nigeria.
The ceremony was attended by top administration officials, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume; Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila; and National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu. Other notable attendees included the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu; and Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, among others.
This FEC meeting, the sixth of the year, is expected to build on the momentum of the previous meeting, which held on May 5. During that meeting, the council approved the ‘Nigeria First’ Economic Policy, a landmark initiative aimed at prioritizing the use of locally produced goods and services in all government procurement processes. The policy is expected to boost Nigeria’s economy, create jobs, and promote economic growth.
As the FEC meeting continues, President Tinubu and his team are expected to discuss and deliberate on key issues affecting the nation, including the implementation of the ‘Nigeria First’ policy, security, infrastructure development, and other pressing matters.
