PDP Must Reorganize or Die, Warns Senator Seriake Dickson

Former Bayelsa State governor and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator Seriake Dickson has warned the party, urging immediate internal reforms to prevent its collapse.

In a statement addressing the deepening internal crisis within the PDP, Dickson declared that the party must “reorganize or die,” stressing that personal ambition and internal wrangling have placed the future of the party in serious jeopardy.

“The PDP is bigger than any individual and should no longer tolerate people with inordinate ambitions to destroy the party which belongs to all Nigerians,” he said.

Dickson’s remarks come amid ongoing factional disputes and leadership struggles within the party.

In recent months, the PDP has been plagued by internal suspensions, legal battles, and a tug-of-war among key stakeholders, particularly between allies of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and those loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

The senator strongly opposed moves to impose a caretaker committee on the party, warning that such actions could lead to instability and weaken the PDP’s structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The PDP does not have the luxury of being in power like the APC. We cannot afford to mismanage our internal democracy or allow the party to be hijacked by undemocratic forces,” he cautioned.

Drawing a comparison to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which has faced its own internal struggles due to leadership changes and interim arrangements, Dickson urged the PDP to learn from the APC’s missteps.

“We should all learn from the challenges the APC has faced with its caretaker arrangement. The PDP must not walk down that same dangerous path,” he said.

Dickson emphasized that unity, discipline, and a return to democratic principles were essential for the PDP to remain a viable opposition force in Nigeria.

He concluded by calling on all party members to prioritize the party’s collective interest over personal ambitions and to work towards rebuilding trust within the party.

“If we fail to reorganize and put the house in order, the PDP risks becoming irrelevant. We must act now, or the party as we know it will cease to exist,” he said.

The PDP, once Nigeria’s dominant ruling party, has struggled to regain national prominence since losing power in 2015.

With the 2027 elections on the horizon, many see Dickson’s warning as a crucial call to action.
