Peter Obi Meets with Nasir El-Rufai in the US Amidst Rumors of Opposition Coalition

Peter Obi Meets with Nasir El-Rufai in the US Amidst Rumors of Opposition Coalition-Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has met with ex-Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in the United States.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 11th Annual Cambridge Africa Together Conference, which is being held at St. John’s College, University of Cambridge.
El-Rufai, who was listed as one of the speakers at the conference, has recently defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The conference brings together African leaders, scholars, and change-makers to discuss key issues affecting the continent.
Obi, who ran under the Labour Party in the last presidential election, and El-Rufai, who is believed to be politically aligned with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, have sparked rumors of a potential opposition coalition. The two politicians, along with Atiku Abubakar, have announced the formation of a coalition aimed at removing President Bola Tinubu from power.
With the announcement of the coalition, many speculate that it will run on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP). El-Rufai, who has defected to the SDP, is believed to be a placeholder for Atiku, fueling rumors of a potential presidential bid.
The meeting between Obi and El-Rufai has raised eyebrows, given their different political backgrounds and affiliations. However, the potential opposition coalition has significant implications for the country’s political landscape, and the involvement of key figures like Obi and El-Rufai is likely to shape the direction of the coalition.
