The incident occurred on Sunday, May 3, 2025, at the Port Harcourt International Airport, where Obehi was trying to board a Qatar Airways flight to Iran via Doha.

According to a statement by the NDLEA’s Director, Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, Obehi used multiple concealment methods to try and smuggle the cocaine out of the country.

She had disguised herself in a hijab to evade security checks, but NDLEA officers, acting on credible intelligence, subjected her to a thorough search.

The search revealed three wraps of cocaine hidden in Obehi’s private part, two parcels concealed in the false bottom of her handbag, and 67 pellets that she had ingested.

She was immediately placed under excretion observation, during which she expelled all 67 pellets over the course of several days.

Obehi confessed that she had intended to swallow 70 pellets but stopped at 67 due to discomfort. She then hid the remaining three in her body.

The total weight of all the cocaine retrieved from Obehi’s body and belongings amounted to 2.523 kilograms. This is a significant seizure, and it highlights the NDLEA’s commitment to combating drug trafficking in the country.
