Air Peace Aircraft Grounded After Collision with Antelope, Flights Disrupted

A bizarre incident occurred at an undisclosed airport in Nigeria when an Air Peace aircraft collided with a large antelope, resulting in significant damage to the plane and disrupting flight operations.

The impact was severe enough to render the aircraft unusable, with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) confirming that the plane has been grounded for repairs.

Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection at the NCAA, took to his official X account on Sunday to provide insight into the incident and its implications.

According to Achimugu, “Monitoring reports yesterday indicated that an Air Peace aircraft ran into a large antelope, decimating the animal and leaving the aircraft AOG (aircraft on ground).” He noted that as a result, flights scheduled to be operated by the affected aircraft would be disrupted, causing inconvenience to passengers.

Achimugu emphasized that while the incident was beyond the control of the airline, it does not absolve the operator of its responsibilities to passengers. “Incidents like this are literal illustrations of the disruptions NOT caused by the airlines (domestic or international),” he said.

The NCAA director stressed that airlines still owe their passengers a duty of care, including providing timely information, refunds, and other forms of support, even in situations like this.

The NCAA has announced that efforts are currently underway to repair the damaged aircraft and resume normal operations.

In the meantime, passengers affected by the disruption are advised to contact Air Peace for assistance and updates on their flight schedules.
