Voting Underway in APC LG, LSDC Elections

Voting has officially commenced in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairmanship Primary Election for the 2025 Local Government elections, with activities in full swing at the Party Secretariat in ACME Road, Ogba, Lagos.
The primary elections, which are a crucial step in preparing for the upcoming Local Government polls, have so far been marked by a show of unity and maturity among party members.
The process has been swift and orderly in some Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), with only aspirants who had been cleared by the party allowed to cast their votes. In these areas, internal consensus has been reached, and candidates have been affirmed through a streamlined voting process before delegates exited the venue.
Among the LCDAs where consensus candidates have emerged are Iba, Oto-Awori, Lekki, and Ijede. Mr. Isa Jubril was ratified as the consensus candidate for Iba LCDA, while Mr. Azeez Kareem received unanimous backing in Oto-Awori LCDA.
Mr. Rasaq Kasali stood unopposed in Lekki LCDA, and Mrs. Motumrayo Gbadebo was the sole aspirant for Ijede LCDA, paving the way for their affirmation as the party’s standard bearers in their respective areas.
In the Surulere and Kosofe Local Government Areas, the primary contest saw a show of unity and maturity as other contenders stepped down in favor of Mr. Bamidele Sulaimon Yusuf in Surulere and Mr. Moyosore Ogunlewe in Kosofe, leading to their emergence as sole candidates.
The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, who monitored the process, praised the aspirants for their conduct and commitment to peace.
He described the atmosphere as a reflection of the party’s internal discipline and democratic maturity.
“I am impressed with the level of maturity and sportsmanship displayed by our aspirants and their supporters,” Dr. Hamzat said. “This is a testament to the strength of our party and our commitment to democratic principles. I urge all stakeholders to uphold this spirit throughout the exercise and beyond.”
Dr. Hamzat further noted that the transparent and credible process being witnessed is not only a model for other states to emulate but also a demonstration of the APC’s position as the most formidable and organized political force in Lagos State.
As the primary elections continue across the remaining LGAs and LCDAs, party officials have assured stakeholders of a fair and inclusive process.
The APC Chairman in Lagos State, Cornelius Ojelabi, said that the party is committed to ensuring that the process is free, fair, and transparent.
