Utomi Adamant, Defends Shadow Government Amid Criticisms from APC, FG

Renowned political economist, Pat Utomi, has justified the recently formed coalition shadow government, dismissing claims that it is an affront to the state or a power grab.
In a statement titled “In Service of Country, In Obedience to Conscience”, Utomi clarified that the shadow cabinet is a citizens’ platform for responsible democratic opposition, rooted in the Nigerian Constitution.
The statement comes amid criticisms from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Federal Government, who have questioned the legitimacy and intentions of the shadow government.
However, Utomi maintained that the initiative is not a rebellion, or a claim to executive authority, but rather a platform for constructive opposition.
According to Utomi, “The Shadow Government is not a rebellion. It is not a claim to executive authority. It is not a parallel structure to the state. Rather, it is a citizens’ platform for responsible democratic opposition—an initiative rooted firmly in the Nigerian Constitution.”
Utomi’s statement is seen as a bold move to reassure Nigerians of the shadow government’s intentions and to address concerns raised by the APC and FG.
The development is expected to spark further debate and discussion on the role of opposition in Nigeria’s democratic system.
