Tijani Lauds Huawei for Huge Investments in Nigeria’s Digital Economy

Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has lauded Huawei, a Chinese tech giant, for its significant investments in the country’s digital landscape.
The minister’s praise came after the Huawei Day Nigeria 2025 Government Forum, which was held in Lagos and brought together top government officials and industry leaders to discuss the impact of digital technologies on governance and public services.
The forum highlighted the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors in overcoming infrastructure challenges and driving digital adoption.
Dr. Tijani commended Huawei’s commitment to building Nigeria’s digital infrastructure, citing the company’s launch of an Innovation Centre and its efforts to develop local talent.
The Executive Director of Galaxy Backbone, Olusegun Olulade, emphasized the crucial role of cloud infrastructure in enabling secure communication and data exchange across government ministries and agencies. He noted that Galaxy Backbone’s cloud infrastructure has enhanced seamless interoperability, real-time data sharing, and improved decision-making, while ensuring robust cybersecurity.
Huawei’s Global Public Sector Chief Technology Officer, Augustine Chiew, discussed the importance of smart cities in driving urban digital transformation.
He cited examples of cities like Lagos and Abuja, which are leveraging AI-powered surveillance, IoT platforms, and scalable cloud solutions to enhance traffic management, public safety, and overall quality of life.
The Director of Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service, Akin-George Fashola, stressed the need for integrating big data analytics with video surveillance to enhance security operations and build public trust.
He noted that this integration would contribute to multi-agency collaboration and improve emergency response capabilities, particularly in high-traffic and densely populated areas.
The forum also underscored the need for strong ICT infrastructure, including high-quality connectivity and converged cloud platforms, to facilitate real-time data sharing and inter-agency collaboration.
Huawei’s “One Network + One Cloud” framework, which includes a National Cloud, was cited as a key enabler of faster, more secure services, speeding deployment, boosting data sharing, and raising citizen satisfaction.
The event featured presentations from key leaders, including Deputy Comptroller General (ICT) of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Mohammed Tukur Umar, and ICT Director of the Lagos State Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Adeyinka Sorungbe.
The forum was part of the ongoing Huawei Day Nigeria 2025, which aims to explore the transformative impact of digital technologies on governance, security, and public service delivery.
