NAFDAC.Seizes Over N114 Million Worth of Adulterated Products in Lagos Cracks Down on Counterfeit Alcoholic Drinks

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has busted a clandestine operation involved in the sale of adulterated and expired alcoholic beverages in Lagos.
The agency caught a suspect, Mr. Madu Abuchi Simon, in the act of falsifying popular alcoholic brands, including Hennessy, William Lawson, Baileys, Martell, St. Remy, and Jameson.
A thorough search of the premises revealed a stash of expired Amarula cream liquor, empty branded bottles and cartons, stickers, stoves, buckets, cotton wool, and a mysterious purple-colored chemical suspected to be used for cleaning and reusing bottles. The suspect attempted to flee the scene but was promptly apprehended by NAFDAC officials.
The raid resulted in the confiscation and evacuation of over 100 cartons of assorted adulterated alcoholic beverages, valued at a staggering N114 million.
The outlet has been sealed pending further investigation, and NAFDAC has warned the public to be vigilant when purchasing alcoholic products.
NAFDAC is advising consumers to only buy alcoholic beverages from reputable vendors and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest NAFDAC office.
The agency remains committed to protecting public health and ensuring consumer safety, and will continue to crack down on counterfeit and adulterated products that pose a risk to the well-being of Nigerians.
The seizure of these adulterated products is a significant victory for NAFDAC in its ongoing efforts to combat counterfeiting and ensure the safety of the food and drug supply chain.
The agency will continue to work tirelessly to identify and prosecute individuals and organizations involved in the production and distribution of fake and harmful products.
