Awolowo’s Granddaughter Dumps Labour Party’s Lagos Executive Committee Over Integrity Concerns

The granddaughter of the late Nigerian nationalist, Obafemi Awolowo, has resigned from the Lagos State Executive Committee of the Labour Party, citing concerns over the committee’s integrity and the damage it has caused to her personal reputation.
In a statement addressed to the Lagos State Chairman of the party, Dayo Ekong, she expressed deep disappointment and frustration with the recent developments within the committee, which she believes have compromised its integrity.
The statement, which was signed by her, highlighted the difficulties she faced in continuing to serve on the committee in good conscience, given the conflicting values and principles at play.
According to her, the committee’s integrity has been leveraged for purposes that conflict with her personal values, leading to an unfair association of her name with actions and motives she does not support or condone.
This, she said, has damaged her reputation and made it impossible for her to continue in her role.
Despite her resignation, the granddaughter of the late Awolowo emphasized her commitment to public service and the political process, stating that her decision to step down was not a reflection of her dedication to the cause, but rather a necessary step to maintain her personal integrity.
