Obi Unrelenting, Delivers Scathing Critique of Nigeria’s State at Edwin Clark’s Memorial Lecture

Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party, has delivered a blistering assessment of Nigeria’s current state, stating that the sacrifices made by past leaders and citizens have been in vain.
Obi made the remarks while paying tribute to the late elder statesman Edwin Clark at a memorial lecture and day of tribute in Abuja.
According to Obi, the country’s problems, including poverty, corruption, and lack of democracy, have rendered the sacrifices of individuals like Clark meaningless.
He cited the example of protests against fuel price increases, which have had no tangible impact on the lives of Nigerians.
Obi also highlighted the alarming levels of poverty and malnutrition in the country, quoting statistics from the World Bank and UNICEF. He noted that 75% of rural Nigerians live in poverty, while over 2 million children suffer from malnutrition, making Nigeria the country with the second-highest number of malnourished children in the world.
The Labour Party candidate further questioned the democratic nature of Nigeria’s elections, citing the example of the Edo state election, which he claimed was not free and fair.
He expressed disappointment that despite the sacrifices made by individuals like Clark, the country has failed to make progress in terms of democracy and good governance.
Obi described Nigeria as a “crime scene” where corruption and stealing are rampant, and called on Nigerians to demand better from their leaders.
He urged citizens to emulate the courageous life of Edwin Clark and work towards rebuilding the country.
In conclusion, Obi said, “We have a continent that is not democratic. We are not a democratic country. Their labour is in vain. We have to start picking the pieces now because they have destroyed everything people have sacrificed for.”
He prayed that God would grant Clark eternal rest and give Nigerians the courage to strive for a better future.
