Nigerian Chess Master Tunde Onakoya Gifted Brand New SUV from Nord Motors

Tunde Onakoya, a renowned Nigerian chess master and founder of Chess in Slums Africa, has been gifted a brand new Nord A9 SUV by indigenous automaker, Nord Motion.

The surprise gift was presented to Onakoya after a friendly chess match with the company’s CEO, Oluwatobi Ajayi.

Onakoya took to social media to express his gratitude, sharing photos of the car and writing, “Just got home to the most heartwarming surprise from my #nordmotion family—the stunning new Nord A9 SUV. Hands down the most beautiful car I’ve ever owned, but even more beautiful is the love behind this incredible gift. Grateful beyond words.”

The gift also came with an extension of Onakoya’s ambassadorial contract with the brand for another year.

Onakoya praised Ajayi, calling him the “Elon of Africa” and expressing his pride in continuing their partnership.

According to a statement by Nord Automobiles, the presentation of the SUV was a celebration of shared values, including innovation, discipline, and Nigerian excellence.

The event included a thrilling chess match between Onakoya and Ajayi, which ended in a draw, showcasing the strategic brilliance of both competitors.

This is not the first time Onakoya has received a vehicle from Nord Motion. In June 2024, he won a Nord SUV after defeating Ajayi in a similar chess match, which also earned him a brand ambassador role at the company.

Onakoya has been making waves in the chess world, recently setting a new Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon of 64 hours alongside his US counterpart, Shawn Martinez. This is his second time breaking the prestigious record, having previously completed a 60-hour chess marathon in April 2024.
