FG Moves 24 Tertiary Institutions from Grid to Solar Power

In a bid to ensure sustainable energy and reduce dependence on the national grid, the federal government has successfully transitioned 24 federal tertiary institutions to solar power.
This milestone was announced by the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, on Wednesday, May 7, during an inspection tour of the solar-powered facility at the University of Abuja (now known as Yakubu Gowon University) in Abuja.
The “Energising Education Project”, an initiative of the federal government, aims to provide a reliable and clean source of energy to federal institutions, thereby enhancing the learning environment and promoting academic excellence. The project is a significant step towards reducing the country’s carbon footprint and mitigating the impact of climate change.
According to Minister Alausa, the solar-powered facilities will not only provide a stable source of energy but also reduce the institutions’ reliance on the national grid, which has been plagued by frequent power outages and instability.
This move is expected to have a positive impact on the overall academic performance of students, as well as the productivity of faculty and staff.
The University of Abuja, which was inspected by the Minister, is one of the institutions that have benefited from the project. The solar-powered facility is expected to provide a reliable source of energy to the university, enabling it to function optimally and provide a conducive learning environment for its students.
The “Energising Education Project” is a laudable initiative that demonstrates the federal government’s commitment to promoting sustainable energy and improving the quality of education in the country.
As the government continues to expand the project to other federal institutions, it is expected that the benefits of solar energy will be felt across the country, contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly future.
In a statement, Minister Alausa expressed his satisfaction with the progress made so far, stating that the project is a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to promote sustainable energy and improve the quality of education in the country.
He also commended the contractors and stakeholders involved in the project for their hard work and dedication.
The successful implementation of the “Energising Education Project” is a testament to the government’s commitment to promoting sustainable development and improving the lives of Nigerians.
As the country continues to grapple with the challenges of climate change and energy insecurity, initiatives like this project offer a beacon of hope for a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly future.
