CREDICORP Launches ₦6 Billion YouthCred Initiative for NYSC Corps Members

The Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) has announced the launch of YouthCred, a groundbreaking financial initiative targeting members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
This program, backed by an initial funding pool of ₦6 billion, aims to provide affordable consumer credit to thousands of corps members across Nigeria.
YouthCred is designed to support young Nigerians by offering accessible loans that improve their quality of life while introducing them to responsible credit management.
The initiative aligns with the federal government’s broader financial inclusion agenda, which seeks to deepen financial literacy and cultivate a sustainable credit culture among young people.
According to Uzoma Nwagba, CEO of CREDICORP, YouthCred is not just a typical loan scheme but a comprehensive financial empowerment program.
“YouthCred is about more than just providing credit. It’s about helping young Nigerians live better today while learning the importance of managing credit responsibly for a more secure financial future,” Nwagba said.
The program is expected to:
• Provide affordable consumer credit to NYSC corps members.
• Foster financial responsibility and literacy.
• Support the government’s financial inclusion goals.
• Encourage long-term economic empowerment for Nigeria’s youth.
YouthCred will complement existing NYSC empowerment initiatives like the Graduate Entrepreneurship Fund (GEF) and partnerships with organizations like the Activate Success International Foundation (ASIF), which have collectively provided billions in grants and mentorship to corps members.
These programs have already made a significant impact by equipping young Nigerians with the skills and resources needed to start businesses and contribute meaningfully to the economy.
The launch of YouthCred is seen as a significant step toward addressing youth unemployment and financial instability in Nigeria. It represents a bold move to empower the next generation of leaders and professionals, equipping them with the financial tools to thrive in today’s economy.
