Abure a Clown Looking for Crown, Otti Dismisses Suspension

Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, has launched a blistering verbal attack on the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, describing him as “a clown looking for a crown.”

The remark, made during a press briefing in Umuahia on Wednesday, comes amid intensifying tensions between the national leadership of the party and its elected representatives in various states.

“Abure is not leading; he’s misleading. You cannot impose yourself on people and expect them to follow. He’s a clown looking for a crown, and unfortunately for him, governance is not a circus,” Governor Otti said.

Governor Otti’s statement appears to be in response to recent comments and moves by Abure concerning the administration and political alignment of the Labour Party in Abia State and other regions. Sources within the party suggest that Otti has grown increasingly frustrated with what he perceives as poor leadership and a lack of strategic direction at the top of the party’s national structure.

The internal rift in the Labour Party has widened in recent months, with elected officials and stakeholders publicly expressing dissatisfaction with the manner in which the national secretariat has been operating.

Otti, a prominent figure within the party and one of its most successful politicians following the 2023 general elections, has not minced words about his concerns.

Political analysts say the governor’s latest outburst signals a critical point in the LP’s internal conflict. While supporters of Otti have hailed his courage to confront what they call “the rot at the top,” loyalists of Julius Abure have condemned the comments, calling them “unbecoming of a sitting governor” and a “distraction from the real issues.”

Party insiders warn that if the crisis is not resolved quickly, the LP could face deeper fractures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Efforts to get a reaction from Julius Abure or the national leadership of the Labour Party were unsuccessful as of press time.
