2027 Polls: Bwala Dismisses Coalition Talks as ‘Political Hallucination’

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has dismissed recent efforts by opposition figures to form a coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing the move as nothing more than “political hallucination.”

Bwala made the remark following the defection of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), a move widely seen as a step toward uniting opposition forces against President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

In a strongly worded statement, Bwala criticized El-Rufai and others pursuing coalition talks, asserting that such alliances are founded not on ideology or progressivism, but on what he called “inordinate ambition.”

“We would intellectually remind you that associating with sore losers to unseat the incumbent is not an ideology, neither is it progressivism; it is simply an inordinate ambition that is destined to fail,” Bwala stated.

He added that the opposition’s early scheming for 2027 lacks substance and is unlikely to succeed without a clear and credible national agenda.

Bwala emphasized that President Tinubu remains focused on governance and delivering on his administration’s mandate, rather than being distracted by premature political maneuvering.

“The president is focused on reforms, economic growth, and good governance. These distractions from the opposition won’t derail our national priorities,” Bwala said.

The development comes amid growing political activity as various parties and political figures begin to position themselves for the 2027 elections.

However, Bwala’s remarks reflect the ruling party’s confidence and its readiness to challenge any opposition coalition with what it describes as performance-based governance.

As Nigeria inches closer to another critical electoral cycle, the viability of a unified opposition front remains uncertain, with critics and supporters alike questioning whether political alliances without shared ideology can hold.
