Kano Police Arrest 18-Year-Old Wife for Allegedly Killing Husband

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of an 18-year-old woman, Saudat Jibril, for allegedly stabbing her husband, 30-year-old Salisu Idris, to death in their home at Farawa Quarters in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the command received a distress call at approximately 12:35 a.m. on May 6, reporting a violent domestic incident.

Officers from the Farawa Division immediately responded and discovered Idris with deep knife wounds to his throat.

He was rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital by concerned neighbors and officers but was declared dead on arrival.

Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, directed a swift response, deploying a team of homicide detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department.

The suspect, Saudat Jibril, was promptly taken into custody at the scene.

She is currently being held at the Homicide Section of the Criminal Investigation Department, where investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the killing.

“The suspect was arrested at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. As soon as investigations are concluded, she will be charged to court,” Kiyawa stated.

So far, authorities have not disclosed any confirmed motive for the attack, though they are interviewing neighbors and relatives to establish the sequence of events leading to the fatal incident.

The tragic development has left residents of Farawa Quarters stunned. Locals described the couple as relatively quiet and said there had been no visible signs of conflict between them.

“We are still in shock. We never heard them fighting or arguing. This is completely unexpected,” said one neighbor, who requested anonymity.

In the wake of the incident, the Kano State Police Command is urging the public to remain vigilant and report signs of domestic violence or suspicious behavior in their communities.

The Command also reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining peace.

For emergency assistance or to report a crime, residents are encouraged to contact the command through its emergency hotlines: 08032419754, 08123821575, and 09029292926.

The case continues to unfold as police gather more evidence and prepare formal charges.
