Tinubu Presents ₦1.78 Trillion FCT Budget to House of Representatives

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday presented a proposed budget of ₦1.78 trillion for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to the House of Representatives for legislative approval.

The proposal was conveyed in a formal letter to the National Assembly, which was read on the floor by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, during plenary.

The president’s action is in accordance with Section 299 of the Nigerian Constitution, which empowers the National Assembly to legislate for the FCT as it would for a state.

According to the details provided, the 2025 FCT budget focuses on key developmental areas, including infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, job creation, and social welfare. President Tinubu noted that 85% of the capital allocation is dedicated to the completion of ongoing projects across the territory, while 15% is earmarked for new initiatives aimed at accelerating economic growth and enhancing residents’ quality of life.

“The timely approval of this budget will allow for early implementation of projects that are crucial to the development of our nation’s capital,” President Tinubu stated in his message to the House.

Lawmakers are expected to review the proposed estimates in the coming days, after which legislative deliberations will begin in earnest. The administration hopes the budget will support its broader development agenda and drive inclusive growth within the FCT.
