Lecturer Threatens to Fail 280 Students who Shunned His Lectures

A lecturer at Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech), Lagos, Dr. Afolabi, has sparked controversy by vowing to fail over 280 freshers who failed to attend his class.

The decision has left the students and the academic community in shock, with many questioning whether the lecturer’s actions are justified.

According to reports, Dr. Afolabi had scheduled a lecture for his freshman students, but only about 20 students out of 300 showed up.

The lecturer, who is said to be displeased with the low turnout, has decided to take drastic action by failing all the students who were absent.

The students, who are mostly in their first year, are said to be in a state of panic, with many trying to appeal to the lecturer to reconsider his decision.

However, Dr. Afolabi remains resolute, stating that his decision is final and that the students who failed to attend his class will have to face the consequences.

While some have criticized Dr. Afolabi’s actions as being too harsh, others have come out in support of the lecturer, arguing that his decision is justified. “If students are not taking their academic work seriously, then they don’t deserve to pass,” said a colleague of Dr. Afolabi, who wished to remain anonymous.

“The lecturer is simply trying to instill discipline and a sense of responsibility in his students.”

However, not everyone agrees with Dr. Afolabi’s approach. “Failing over 280 students for missing one class is excessive and unfair,” said a student who was affected by the decision. “We understand that attendance is important, but this is our first year, and we’re still adjusting to the college environment. We’re not trying to be truant, but sometimes things come up, and we can’t make it to class.”

The incident has raised questions about the attendance policy at Yabatech and the measures that lecturers can take to ensure that students attend their classes. While some have called for a more lenient approach, others have argued that Dr. Afolabi’s actions are a necessary wake-up call for students who take their education for granted.

The management of Yabatech has yet to comment on the matter, but it is understood that the school’s authorities are looking into the incident and may take disciplinary action against Dr. Afolabi if his actions are deemed to be unfair or unjust.
